20 Desks for Two Classrooms
Children often struggle to take notes when they do not have proper desks.
Funds Raised: $500/ $500
When Kisoro Kids started in 2011, students were sitting on logs or unstable benches, struggling to find a way to write in their notebooks. Through generous donations, Kisoro Kids has now provided over 460 desks for the five community schools. Each desk seats four children. But they need more!
This project provides 80 students a more comfortable place to sit, write, and store their supplies. The 20 desks will be made by local Ugandan carpenters, helping the local economy. A love of learning at an early age is important and we want to help the children in Kisoro get off to a great start!
Curriculum Books
Funds Raised: $770/ $770
Teachers at all five schools are in need of new curriculum books for their classes. This is especially true for the lower grades.
This project provides approximately 40 curriculum books for teachers across the five schools. The books will be laminated to help preserve them.
Teachers laminating new curriculum books
Most teachers at these schools do not have access to teacher curriculum books at their schools. Instead, they must find books elsewhere and have them photocopied. Photocopying is expensive and leads to reduced teacher pay. These books will be kept secure in a cupboard at each school where teachers can directly access them and check them out to bring home.
Kisoro Hill Building Project
Funds Raised: $4,500/ $4,500
The Ugandan government has required that Kisoro Hill Elementary replace its wooden classrooms with safer brick buildings. Two new brick and concrete buildings for 4th through 7th grade are now complete! Since their space is limited, the school now wishes to build a three-story building that will house preschool through 3rd grade, school offices and a library!
Kisoro Kids is partnerning with the Kisoro Hill community to build a three
story classroom building with nine rooms! This will help the school meet
local building requirements and better utilize their limited land.
The building now has three mostly completed floors with the roof construction beginning soon! This project provides doors, windows, plaster, and paint for the 3rd floor! We are excited that we get to help this community provide a conducive learning environment for their children!
Completing the first level stairs!
